Vogue 1250 - Donna Karan

I've been a sewing fool, then again, I'm into instant gratification and none of these things I've sewn lately is very complicated or time consuming.

This is a great dress! It is 3, yes 3 pieces, no zipper, buttons, very little marking. I cut this out this afternoon and sewed a bit here and there tonight. The only fiddly thing I can find with it is the side seams. They are kind of like darts in that they don't go all the way down and in my fairly sheer, light colored fabric, they were tricky.

This is some poly I bought online somewhere. I think FabricMart. I'm pretty sure it was a nicer one. It definitely feels and acts nicer than some of that $1.99 junk. It didn't shed and was very easy to sew with. It is thin though and required a slip and some Spanx. Otherwise you could see all of my tattoos and every lump and bump I had.

This is a great "going out" dress if you need something quick and easy yet really nice. I will definitely be making more of these. Donna Karan is a genious in how she makes clothes fit women.

For the next version, I will probably shorten it in the waist about an inch. It's too long on me which is not abnormal. Looking at the photo on the pattern, I think the back waist seam sits too low on me.

Stewie says "HI" again! And ignore my lovely shoe....;-) Hopefully, I will be back in my heels soon. I already miss them.

I love it and I especially like Stewie!

I had a little extra in the back too. I think shortening it an inch will definitely fix it. This looks great on you. Will your "real" fabric look like the muslin fabric?

Thank Heather! He's a doll.

Carolyn...I'm not sure what I'm going to use for it. I'm thinking about giving this one to a friend of mine who's a bit taller than I am. I love what you and Heather did with the black and white fabric.

I just made this dress too. I cut a 16 at the shoulders down to an 18 in the hips. I am 5 foot 3 too, and it was about 2.5" too long in the waist. Do you mind sharing what size you cut out?? I am about your size, maybe a bit smaller in the bust :-). I think I could go down to a 14 in the shoulders/upper body. Would love your thoughts.

Your dress looks great and if it is as easy to make as you say, I definitely need to get it.

@Darby...Sure I don't mind. I just guess I forgot to mention it. I cut a straight 16 for this. I usually do a 14 with an FBA and some width to the waist. I don't know why I just did a 16 honestly. I blame my broken toe and the drugs ;-) I should have cut a 14 in the shoulders, a 16 in the waist and hips and probably tapering up to an 18 in the bust. If I could do an FBA I probably would but I'm kind of stumped on how to do it here. I don't want darts. I'm VERY short waisted though, even for my height. I only measure about 13.5" neck to waist.

I've sewn myself one already and have another cut out just waiting for a spare hour. I wasn't sure about the FBA either so didn't do it on my first version, but needed it.

I think yours looks good - I can see that this dress pattern will fly through the sewing internet world as everyone discover the ease of sewing combined with the fabulous results.

Kim: I'm making this dress right now and I'm finding the shoulder seam alignment kind of difficult. Can you tell me a bit more about how you did that? Because I clipped to the reinforced triangle, I'm finding it difficult to hide that raw bit and I'm not exactly sure where the back neck facing is supposed to be caught.

I love the dress even though you think there are things that need to be changed about the fit. I really thinks it flattering. I'm sold, I want to buy the pattern and make it too. Would you be upset if I used the same color fabric....I love it.

Of course I wouldn't be upsetp Rachel!!! Sew away!
