I have been so bad about blogging. I barely even get garments reviewed on Pattern Review. I have been sewing, quite a bit actually. Some things have to give though time wise and blogging was one of them. But, I miss it, and I am going to try and keep up with it.

So I got another new job...this is my 5th new job since I moved to Montana....and my last. It's the job I'd been looking for and could not find. I wasn't even really looking for this job but it happened to pop up in my email one day from LinkedIn and I thought I'd be an idiot for not applying. I didn't like the job I was currently in but didn't have the energy to look. In all honesty, I put very little effort into getting this new job, but it was obviously meant to be. I love it! I really like the work and my coworkers. So, to the wardrobe contest. I'd been wearing jeans to work, which at first I didn't like because I missed my dress up clothes but by the end, I'd adjusted. The new job was business casual and I used that term loosely. I needed new clothes!

I started out trying to sew up something French Girl Chic inspired. I wanted some nice basics in neutral colors that I get a ton of wear out of and mix with my current clothes. But, this is Montana, so I wanted to add a little Big Sky Country flair. I have really come to love Montana!

I really like how my wardrobe turned out. I even like how my pictures turned out but if you take 150 pictures, a couple are bound to turn out...lol

Here are the composite pictures and a link to a bunch of other ones on Photobucket.
We did a City Hall ceremony then out to dinner. He wears a 2XL and I was suprised by the lack of choices he had to choose from. He did buy a nice black shirt but it was so low in the armscyes, he felt restricted. I looked at the shirt and thought, "Shoot, I can make one that fits you!" I have the same issue with armscye depth accounting for my bust size. I just usually cut a smaller size through the shoulders than the rest of the shirt. So, I starting looking for men's shirt patterns. There are actually quite a few to choose from. I seriously considered the Colette Negroni, which I may still purchase. But ended up going with the Kwik Sew 3484. He prefers a collar without a stand and I don't blame him. I don't like stand collars on myself either. I know they look more "finished" but they annoy me.

So I went to Hancock's, bought the pattern along with another one to try later and grabbed some greenish blue linen blend off the sale table to give this a shot. After washing the fabric 5 times and drying it, including rinsing with vinegar a couple times, it was still rough. He said go ahead and use it but in my opinion if it's uncomfortable what's the point. I rooted around in my stash and found a couple pieces of stretch broadcloth in a blue and one in red. He choose View B in the blue with the red stripe and accents.

I took his measurements and flat measured a shirt he likes and decided on sewing the 2XL everywhere except the shoulds which are an XL. I think it fits him pretty well.

He swears he likes it! He kept joking about The Cosby Show episode where Denise makes a shirt for Theo! Hahaha ;-) He did take it with him this weekend to wear at his daughter's dance festival.

I enjoyed making it. The instructions were good. As usual, I tend to skip around on instructions which always bites me in the backside. Next time I will be better. I think a beginner could make this easily!

Great shirt! It was fun to sew for him and he was very appreciative.Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-86903725842440799052013-06-24T18:49:00.001-04:002013-06-24T18:49:29.444-04:00Vogue 8870 - Summer Time!I absolutely LOVE this dress!!! I have been working on it for a couple weeks despites it's Very Easy status. Unfortunately I came down with a monster cold just after cutting it out. Happily though, I now have a part time job outside the house and am sewing more and wearing real clothes! Yeah!!! I never realized how much joy I get out sewing, fashion, and wearing pretty things. LOL

Ok, so this dress is very easy. I bought a bunch of rayon challis from FabricMart a couple sales ago and I actually bought this fabric for this dress...that never happens. It's very thin and floaty but not see through, turned out to be a perfect choice. I think anything stiff at all for this dress would create a shelf look at the hip no matter how thin your hips are. There is a lot of fabric there to give the blouson look.

The pattern has raglan sleeves, wrapped bodice with facings that actually work nicely, and the high low hem. I can't honestly say which hem I cut, I think I cut a combination of them accidentally. This went together very easily. I decided because of the lightness of fabric that I would do all french seams and I'm very glad I did. They look so nice and add some stability.

This is a straight Large size. That was the smallest in the envelope. The Large pretty much matches my measurements. I usually go with a smaller size in the shoulders though and could have done that with this.

I did not make any pattern alterations but if and likely when I make this again I will. I'm always in a quandary on how to fix the fact that I'm short waisted but very full busted. The length on a bodice is usually ok for me adding in the extra needed for the bust but sometimes it doesn't work quite right. So, I think I will raise up the shoulders on this next time and add at least an inch, maybe 2 to the bodice. It hits right at my natural waist, which is unfortunately right below my bust. I'm not sure you can see in the photos but it's kind of pulling the bodice forward on my shoulders. It's not the end of the world on this one but I'd like to make it better for the next.

I know the high/low hem is on trend right now but this is a great basic dress and you can always change the hemline. I'm always looking for cute things to make that look good on me in wovens.

Thanks for remembering me! LOL...it's been so long since I've been sewing and blogging but I plan to keep up on it again. I have another dress sewn already and one on the cutting table for more posts shortly!

Here are a mixture of pictures, some with a belt, some not. I really like it with the belt.
I love me some mystery bundles. Sometime they are bad...oh so bad, but then you get a gem like this out of nowhere! This reminds me of the fabric I used for my Colette Macaron.

Colette Macaron

I'm a sucker for panelled prints and I love the bright flowers on the black background. So I got three panels of this polyester knit. In all honesty, it's a big rough. There are some flawed color patches which at first I thought were dirt but they did not come out in the wash. Hence, a bad dye job or a machine malfunction. Despite that, I wanted to use this for this dress.

The panels were a bit too narrow for the skirt so my skirt is a little smaller width wise, no biggie. And to make the bodice, I had to cut everything out in single layer to get it too fit. I didn't even have enough fabric for the little ties that it's supposed to have.

I thought I would be smart and put clear elastic along the neckline to stabilize it because this was pretty flimsy. Unfortunately, it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. If I make this again, I will just leave it alone.

I do really like the gathered shoulder seams and the neck has decent coverage. I did have to tweak it a bit though but I always do. I made an 18 in the body and a 16 in the shoulders. Still working on that extra weight that I've added. I could have easily made it a size smaller though, it's generous.

I'm actually really happy with this dress. It's a very nice pattern and I could see myself making it again this summer.
I thought it could be flattering on my shape. Now that I've made it, I think I was right. I still have some fit issues and you will see below but it's not horrendous. The was another test run to see if I wanted to make this out of one of my Liberty of London fabrics. I think I will wait for something else.

I cut an 18 in the dress with the exception of the shoulders and neckline, which are a 16. I did not do an FBA, thinking that my full bust measurement was close to the 18 measurements. I've added weight and my difference between high and full bust, and my waist is not as drastic. I did shorten the darts points so they didn't land in a weird spot. In addition, I took darts in the front armcye as it was gaping and I also took a single dart down the center back bodice from the neck down. I tried two smaller ones but it pulled the shoulders funny. I'm so narrow in the shoulders that I always have gaping there. I think it could also be due to my super short waist though as well. I need to learn better how to shorten a bodice for that issue, yet maintain enough coverage for the front. In a regular shaped bodice an FBA would help but this is a funky design and I had no clue how to do it.

Despite the tweaking, I am still pulling a bit in the front and there is a big wad of fabric on my back where I should have shortened the bodice. I was thinking about just taking a horizontal fish eye dart to get rid of it, but I got so sick of messing with it!

I like it, I will wear it. If I did make it again, I would...gasp...make a real muslin! I hate muslins but I can't remember everything I tweaked because I did it as I went. I think this dress has promise but I think for me a simpler bodice that I can do a real FBA would work better. I love the flared skirt and the neckline is pretty nice too.
I love this fabric. It was in a mystery bundle from FabricMart. I'm such a sucker for the mystery bundles! It is a stretch cotton and I only had shy of 2 yards. It's bright and fun! Oh and look what my boyfriend got me yesterday...They match!

I've been sewing a bit here and there but just TNT patterns, nothing spectacular or blog worthy. But this past week, we had our floors done and I was trapped in the basement for a week...lol! So, I took advantage of that and the rainy weather to do some sewing. I made a skirt and two shirts and I really wanted to blog about the shirts.

I've been meaning to make Vogue 1247 (the top) for quite awhile. I've made the skirt twice but have been delinquent on the top. I've seen so many made and they were all cute.

Also, I've had this pattern in mind for one of my Liberty of London fabrics. I have two I've had for a couple years now and one more recent, albeit not very recent, piece from EmmaOneSock that I bought on ther Clearance Roll End sale. This one is a more modern funky pattern of matchsticks. I thought it would go well with this Vogue pattern. Here it is up close.

But I wanted to try this pattern out and see if I liked it on me first so I made a practice version. I bought this fabric from FabricMart and it was a bit more than I thought it was worth actually. Rarely am I unhappy with purchases from them but this one wasn't stellar. It's a cute pattern but the fabric is cheap and feels and looks more like it would be suited for scrubs than a cotton lawn or voile it was advertised as. Oh well, can't win them all. I still love FM! But nonetheless, it made a great practice shirt. I wore it today even and expect to wear it often this summer.

I read a ton of reviews and the consensus was that this was a huge shirt and that it could be sized down. So this version is a straight 14 which is a size or more now than what I should be. I've put on some weight :-( It's wearable, most definitely but it's a bit small. It kind of bunches on my hips. So for the next version I made a 16 on the body and a 14 on the shoulders which have been my normal sizes. Technically, my measurements are an 18 these days though but my high bust is still around a 14 or 16. Also for the next version, I raised the neckline by 3/4 " which I love. I have a cami on under this, not because it's too low but it gapes so much. Raising the neckline helped this a lot!

Sorry for the picture quality. There were taken by a reluctant 11 year old boy while I was interupting his "shows" ugh!

I really love this pattern now. It's got shape for such a seemingly shapeless style. OMG and the Liberty of London was a dream to work with!!! I have two other pieces and my goal is to sew them up this summer as well. I kept waiting for my size to be perfect, yadda, yadda, yadda, and the bottom line is I want to wear this stuff now! Cut into that nice fabric! I know I am now!!!
I'm feeling ambitious and think I want to make myself a new winter coat. I've enjoyed making coats in the past and am in the mood for something new.

I have a few options I'm considering:

A Cape, New Look 6007.

McCalls 6442, the shorter version with the hood. However, as I was doing some research on coats for the well endowed, I read that hoods actually maximize your upper half. I never realized that I guess. It's quite a bummer because I love hoods. I know, wear what I like, but I don't want the girls looking bigger. So I may opt for the collared version instead. And on another note, the last couple McCalls I have made, I have been very disappointed in the pattern sizing and drafting.

Burdastyle 11-2010-124...in Shearling! Yes, well I said I was feeling ambitious. I bought some real shearling from FabricMart when they had a huge sale last year. I packed it up and moved it cross country. It is Winter in Montana after all so I am actually leaning towards this coat. I'd need to buy some cheap faux shearling to practice on first. I've looked at other coat patterns for shearling and nothing really jumps out. I found another Burdastyle but it's got a huge open collar and those I have found are not flattering on me at all. This one looks pretty straightforward. I need to make sure I have enough to make it though.

Decisions, decisions.....Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-62085970753667780632013-01-17T10:59:00.002-05:002013-01-17T10:59:41.665-05:00Simplicity 1716The dogs coats are boxed up and en route to Michigan. I'm trying to figure out what to sew next but in the meantime here is a shirt that I sewed up in December. This was either going to be a love or hate style for me and I actually LOVE it! I think it actually turns out to be somewhat minimizing on my upper half. The detail is above the bust so your eye goes up. I made a muslin out of dollar a yard poly and promptly chucked it when I was done but I found out I liked the design.

This is a yummy Rayon/Lycra knit from my old indie, Fabric Gallery, in Michigan that is no more. She retired. I found out she was selling out after I decided to move. I tell ya, if I had known prior to my move, I might just have bought her store!

I really am loving this pattern! There will be more of these, in fact, as I'm pondering a new coat to sew, I may make another one of these quickly. Once you figure out the construction, it's a breeze to make! I made my muslin wrong but figured it out before the final product.

Off to fondle fabric and stare at patterns to decide what to make next...

Between lifestyle changes and body changes, I have no idea what to sew. I lay out fabric and patterns, put them all away, do it again, and then never sew anything. I really wanted to sew though so I offered to make some dog coats for some very worthy dog rescue groups back in Michigan.

One is Dog Aide, which was co founded by my very good friend since high school. They work as a uniting force for rescue groups in the Detroit area, trying to get everyone to work together instead of against. They help people be better pet owners, provide food, and help with vet costs.

The other is Detroit Bully Corp, which rescues and rehabilitates mostly bully breed dogs, of which I am a huge fan of. Love them slobbery bully kisses! They are wonderful, loving dogs that unfortunately have gotten a bad rap and are a victim of indiscriminate breeding.

I made a couple prototypes and sent them to my friend to try on her big bully breed dog to see if they fit. I had to modify my original coat design for the big head, big chest dogs. And now I am making about 15 coats to start with. I have some ideas for some cute ones down the road but for now I wanted to make a good chunk to send for the groups to use or sell.

I will get back to sewing something for me. I just don't really go anywhere now. I work from home, go to the YMCA, and go skiing or play with my dogs. I need to divest myself of some of this yummy dress fabric and buy more active wear to sew. Oh well, in the meantime, my sewing area looks like a fleece factory exploded!

So up next is McCall's 6656. I saw a picture of a knit motorcycle type jacket and loved it. I can't find it now but you get the gist. So I saw this pattern and thought it was perfect. NOPE! This picture looks fitted to me...does it not? Ok, so read the pattern description and it says, " Loose-fitting, unlined jackets or coats have front extending into collar, front princess seams, and two-piece sleeves"

Alright, so then I looked at the finished measurements and the XL has a finished bust measurement of 45. Perfect, just a little room. The package says I should be an XL. So I cut an XL in the body and a Large in the shoulders. OMG was this huge!!! The armcyes are down to my waist and I could fit another person in the coat with me. I took in the sides a full 2 inches on each side, so a total of 4 inches. It's short too. Even if left unfinished it would be short. I'm going to have to add a piece to the bottom so it's not riding up my back all the time.

There is SO much shoulder cap ease which I completely took out, but the sleeves are very narrow. I kept thinking it weird because I made it out of a knit/fleece type material but I don't think so. I am really bummed about it. I was so hoping for this look below but it looks nothing like it. Maybe it was just my expectations of the pattern but I am very disappointed in it. I keep thinking I may buy it again in the XS, S, M size and cut a Medium out and see what it fits like. But I'd have to adjust the sleeves....ugh

I'm trying to salvage it so I can at least wear it around the house. It's super cozy, warm fabric and such a waste. It looks OK on the mannequin and I just have the sleeves pinned on.

Thanks to all those who had tackled this dress before me, it sure made it easier. Plus, I went into it knowing it was a PITA pattern.

I did do some alterations before cutting. Those were to take an inch off the bodice and back length, along with an inch from the shoulders. I normally need to shorten the bodice, even with my large chest because my back length is under 14 inches. However, for this pattern, I shouldn't have done it. I'm stretching it like crazy. I managed to take small seams which helped but it's not draping like it should. I also should have cut out an 18 instead of a 16. My new larger size is really throwing me. I normally fluctuate up and down 5 pounds but this extra 15-20 is not just a smidge factor in patterns. I need a bigger size! I've been trying to lose it but it's just stuck! Damn getting old!

I do like this dress and it is very flattering, I think anyways. It is a very tedious pattern but if you know that going in, it's worth it. I did find another copy of it on ebay and bought it so I could make it again in an 18. I think it would be fun in a pattern as a casual dress.

Here is a quickie shot after I finished it. I'll try to post some of the dress up version.
And two posts in one week after no posting for months...yeah!

Yes, the instructions STINK! Thank goodness I had all the resources of those who came before me with this pattern. I think that was one of the reasons I shied away from this pattern for so long. It's kind of nice to not be rushed and to sew at a slower pace. Although I do have a deadline of next Saturday!

Oh, and thank goodness for a dress form. I really don't use it much but for this it was absolutely necessary!

I am a fairly spatial person (Multi-variable calculus was one of my favorite classes...NERD!) but this dress is still a tough one to visualize. All in all though it is coming along. I can see how the finishing will be fiddly but I am hoping...HOPING...it will be worth it and be as flattering as it appears to be.

Here's a blurry pic off my camera phone...it's showing up purple here but it's more of a burgundy/wine color. Nothing fancy fabric wise, just a plain old ponte blend.

Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-22453426104971312042012-10-23T14:49:00.001-04:002012-10-23T21:27:23.260-04:00Vogue 1087 - "Difficult, but great for Advanced Sewers"I have been sewing a bit. I made another pair of my favorite TNT Burda pants, aka Crazy Pants, out of red denim. I also made one of my favorite tops, a Vogue, of which the number escapes me. I got all fired up to do the wardrobe challenge on PR but could not get into it.

Sewing for myself now that I work at home is HARD!!! I don't know what to sew! I work in yoga pants and hoodies mostly. As much as I try to get up and get dressed, I find myself in comfies, especially if I work out in the morning. Most of my awesome clothes that I love are languishing in my closet...so sad!!! Plus I work all day in the basement, which is very nice, but my sewing area is down there too. At the end of the day, I don't want to be downstairs anymore to sew.

And no, I really don't want to sew lounge clothes. It's just not that fun for me. I ordered some corduroy and some yummy mohair sweater knit so I'm planning on some pants and a sweater. It's cold in my "office" in the basement.

Add to all these other issues, I have put on weight! Ughh! Not a couple pounds but like 15 or 20...nothing like a stressful time in your life to pack on the poundage! So it's also really frustrating to sew bigger sizes.

Ok, well now that I got all the whining out of my system...I am trying a new approach to sewing. I'm going to start attempting things I would never have done before or was too "instant gratification" to sew. Things like, lined dresses, maybe a fitted jacket, the details I usually skip like welt pockets, etc. I've been sewing fast and quick for the most part because I want something new now! Well, now I don't have to do that.

So for my first, "I'd never have sewn that" project, I chose Vogue 1087. The reviews on it are good, but all say "Difficult, but great for Advanced Sewers." There is a lot of hand sewing which is not my favorite. And I tell you, this better turn out after all that hand sewing...lol!

I'm making the dress for a little cocktail thing to support a local animal rescue group. I need to get out so I figured this was a good cause and a fun reason to sew up a new dress.
I always seem to be a day late or dollar short when it comes to these contests but I think this is just what I need to get me out of my sewing doldrums. Now that I am working from home, I have no idea what to sew. I want to get up and get dressed in the morning but skirts and heels just seem silly and pretty uncomfortable for a day working from the basement.

I've decided to try and sew a casual yet luxe wardrobe for the contest or in other words...NOT Pajamas!

So here is some of my inspiration...

There are a couple other great links on Net-a-Porter but I can't get the pictures to save.

http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/312251

So far I'm planning on:

McCalls 6514 in the Wide Leg version in black knit.

Vogue 8837 Pants in Red!

And for tops maybe...

Vogue 8831

And...Butterick 5815

So far, I'm planning on Blacks and Reds with maybe some grey thrown in.

I finally sewed something last month. I was going through withdrawal and needed to sew. I picked the easiest, quickest pattern I had and knew I liked. With my house up for sale and most things packed away, I couldn't pull out a bunch of stuff and make a big mess. This is such a great bang for your buck pattern. I've worn the dress a ton already. Sorry for the poor quality photo!

I doubt there will be any sewing again for at least another month or two. My moving day is July 16th...Hello Montana!!! My stuff may take up to two weeks to get there but I am very excited about the move and looking forward to this awesome new chapter in my life.

I am going to have some great space for my new sewing area where I can spread out and create! I am wondering though what to sew. I have sewn work clothes for the last several years and my new job will be remote so my commute is to the basement. I don't have to get dressed up but really don't want to fall into the "sweatpants and bunny slippers" habit either. I do think it will be fun to make things I never was able to wear. The more casual, fun stuff, that I always said I'd love to make but couldn't wear to work.

I purged a ton of fabric and old patterns. I had every intention of putting them up here for free but the time contraints were too tight...sorry ;-) I am packing a ton of fabric. I am going to have to resort it out and maybe sell or give away some of the more formal work type fabric that I won't be sewing in the foreseeable future.

I will try to be more frequent in my posts even if it is only meager sewing and maybe from road trip pictures next month!
Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-41980797348622230772012-03-20T08:30:00.004-04:002012-03-20T12:52:16.052-04:00Yep...I'm a sewing slacker!I keep being reminded that I haven't posted anything to my blog in a LONG time by someone...:-) But the problem is that I haven't sewn anything since the beginning of February. I made another of the New Look dresses that the previous post was about. Turned out great with minor changes, I have pictures of me in it, but just haven't had time to get them on here.

I've been so busy getting my house ready to sell, getting divorced, etc, etc, etc. Another large time consumer has been my son's gymnastics. This is his first year on team and he is loving it! It takes up a lot of our time but it's worth it. I will get back to sewing...soon! I love the wrap top and the pockets and the skirt...great dress!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 279px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7uz5AnQdhYUNAPhHcTWOlgKTxUcgPQxUtQd_51V69V-sOh0S7-Thw8dnHZzqITfcxGY6aSRwayV1hHAiyu15cOxW1IBnDRSVRE7lqPRMKsK6e97-w7Gj-4Dt8c-tTWsa03xt4lQdkLmIh/s400/NL+6097.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703845824839930290" />

Well, it was a bit frustrating trying to pick out a size. I measure for an 18, but 18's never fit me. So, usually I make a 14 or 16 and then cut a smaller shoulder/neck area since I am short waisted. I don't sew too many New Look patterns so I'm not sure if this is standard or not, but it had seperate pieces for about 3 sizes. So cutting out a 16 through the bust but 14 in the shoulders would have been tricky. I think the 16 top pieces had the 12, 16 and 20 on it. I usually grade the shoulders to the smaller size.

I was really torn on the 14 or 16 for this. The bust finished measurement is only 1 inch ease if I remember correctly, so the 16 measured 39 inches. But the waist measurement had, I think, around 5 or 6 inches of ease built in. Then I realized the waist had an elastic casing in it to snug it up. Now to me, the dress looks all across rather form fitting. I don't get how the elastic waist with that much ease would look. Long story short, I decided to cut the 16, even though when I put the Vogue 8379 bodice piece that fits me great(which is similar) on top of the 14 and 16, it matched the 14 pretty well. Doh!!!

So, I'm wishing I would have cut out the 14. The bodice is droopy and has gapiosis, but if that was gone there would be excellent coverage. Now, I'm not sure, but this could be a technique issue. They have you fold a neckline facing piece, stitch it on then understitch. It seems mine got stretched out in the understitching even though I had the tension and everything correct. It got kind of wavy. I thought I had pulled enough "extra" through on the bottom of the bodice when I basted it but it still gapes. I don't feel like I'm going to expose myself though and with a cami on under it, it looks ok. Next time, I will skip the facing and just fold over and use clear elastic.

Next time, despite the finished measurements, I will cut out a 14, or if I cut a 16, I will take up the shoulders a good inch! There is a lot of extra room in the bust, even on me!

The pockets are another issue though. They have you stitch them then topstitch them...wavy!!! I though about sticking some clear elastic in between before the initial stitching and wish I had.

And the waistband, they have you create a casing when you sew the skirt to the bodice. Then, to secure it they have you tack it at the sides. I went ahead and created a casing by folding up the seam allowance instead. There is a seam line visible but I didn't want the casing flipping around on me.

All in all, this is a nice dress. This one is wearable but if I make it again I will tweak a few things. I think the lines of the dress are slightly different than what is represented on the drawing and picture. The picture seems very form fitted but I think if sewn up according to the pattern it would be less fitted.

I skipped the belt too.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsAoA2lQSbbnio6reocutMhB2jOE2lcG3q0_FaaCqpdssAZdR4Rfgi5XX_m1X2TzMpE0LjOZMGKX7i8-4QROP8MI3yqThyphenhyphenSN6NZpkbO4T__EJEkN03J0TylA_l_-o2RL0xRRb7iNAeBfPe/s400/NL6097+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703850176343474034" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSbjpRSIPu1l6Ls6DGVJtZ-cj6rxdeWH5sC_1rQnIC-DmIZ_khVf1CAb5gq4QKIwIOOLJW1pEwRi2sM4B6UJNlCCHdT71N3jRJZOfOjvKI9Ae2SgLI3Cogol_yholIGMYmG4AhUuEtfLH5/s400/NL6097+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703850171092411890" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsJcLStmNlrHfXZ6cCR_cd_b290BRjUZgmEjKxflRImcj06TahCJl4RwhW3uCySu-oSvvgmAoAPQ5_ZhImfjj7movXUMCCRy9I1w6RDb_TrUJHNN2V1YItcAY99SBxEHUBUE8Eiox9Md1Q/s400/NL6097+Front+Closeup.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703850157745486850" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKjyP-e1sP-Cjuwj3MFVdqNTZLFFsY8Yedh5Utb6REQJUkkObjlMm6O7GpXLPeJHO1ykAKjxLG0r5eAMP7xtUfJw4DLSLC7pRkVYsJN5tzQtgaxnSX0C89lYrdKdooBoKLLu-_Q2ioCf3-/s400/NL6097+Side.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703850154101937842" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGB1GGhK_hpn6Oww9vQy09nVOMkGder1AZgHxm75WKJFWwOYt16tWD2BDdNBcZForR3-OeU-KQIGW5R_wUygaNIzJ0nummnnjJCb4J3VrPhr9hK1aloo3KhopmoeY098FUWK-V2ittQeEm/s400/NL6097+Work.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703850150207749106" />Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-9925959609146463912012-01-29T09:01:00.008-05:002012-01-29T09:38:15.520-05:00Playing Catch UpI've been too busy to blog lately and I was reminded by someone that I hadn't updated my blog in awhile...lol! So here is a quick pictorial update of what I have been sewing.

I have been participating in the Fabric Stash contest but really just don't have time to document everything with reviews. But, at least I am sewing stash fabric.

First up...Dress up clothes.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYUuIp0sgYW6kyqPkS_AV2UPhYcfxsPcjcmTw9XcVjCqkm1tAv9-uIJlU7gEvxSoJewM-NvJrg03T4MDwLQyRdM5QjLQjm-EGJMozd1bjwIXejeBwOi1qlT3BQq94fYehxNly7nst9Vtl9/s400/Dress+Up+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703054782828410658" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioZCzspxAR5z0y3hka5WdOW6xELdpmEGuGzy00QiG21MZttToQ_9YywqDPYoPi-qj3vQBXfLL5Y5QhrMa5jfBvSqvzxHzvEH0xDU-JLSwiyF0Wd5GrmpWyOsfKinblsqC3YSIdz17V_82i/s400/Dress+Up+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703054780387969426" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvZvwMFslo4ac_GGFKTRzMfvWcMbk9Kz9PCpAkCQc8cwnfHhXannOfvMec0rAHqwdEsfAsx1UEP-PsfNghqQuFUFKwN4hUjp_YBE3KQ_aANXt_o4Vq4EQACuc_HwkEgf_bOv3wS9B461P7/s400/Dress+up+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703059035958589170" />

Midi Length bias cut skirt..McCalls 6438. I modified it to cut on the fold and bias. I'm not sure if it was the changes I made or the pattern but the waistband didn't match up right. It's just kind of an ok pattern. I cut View C.

It's an ok skirt. I think it was one of the first patterns I bought. The fabric was a Fabricmart mystery bundle cut. I don't know why I haven't made it. I'm glad I did now. I made a straight size 14 and it fit well, except if I make it again I will add an inch to the bodice. It isn't a hard pattern but the collar adds some time to it as does all the gathering for the sleeves. I think I might make this again for summer with the short sleeves. I really like the lines of the pattern.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgROfdM2pmwP7rGmLLi5KYUD3YBjF2bLTM4OHkJqGk3vE-mx1cZPjcJzhfYznLiz7_BzDpIfTrH908QOQBLtszE_ue2UL0Xwe91lE1VID-bnOE9BB9KBOxpIlm5SDoqPN7aEDej9rHHv4VH/s400/Polka+Dot+Butterick+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703060670221028274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWz42yL-X0F8IZ-TiVKwT5DV4xI6Vk7IsBaUI9S47Mji7pJFHmxrhLpOoj0Rs-33MdOrlsPKpKBQWt3lkWzmwXFrSekc4DMvGcUN_vpmGzy0x-9iB1Rau47Oj9BgAKVQWhcKQ3cccUaiME/s400/Polka+Dot+Butterick+Front+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703060664736724706" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9PR-Qi8oFnxeOlM-DNN1vqNvOtxlruc976dHiHxZvtvfFse-ePLLxs4-puApGY5v1HMuR5qzMMbgRN66dzoFQrjsEvLirLtlug4Ejl3DzMCTONsEjjX1GbQFhiF13Yp6bEXUzpmpEHbGn/s400/Polka+Dot+Butterick+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703060677809107794" />

Next Vogue 8581

Once again, another stash fabric and pattern I have had forever. I have been tormenting myself with gathering!!! Both the neckline and sleeves are gathered on this. I made a second one which I don't have a picture of with casings and elastic on both instead of gathering. It is a slightly different look but went together so much faster. I will be making this for summer too in the short sleeved version. I really like it. My favorite thing is the high armcyes! It's a peasant top but it doesn't look like I'm swimming in it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhplOMhg2r_PUJbMcilxQeqfxq5hbVjBTCYLE6Gt6aH3UH-VVY-Ng-WeQJiYkRGvtnT5DvAELv2I_2mUZV1ZN0kOled_lHXWzXYOuAYOwNramCa_BIcxqacjH85H32AmfcIZHXKm-h84oSY/s400/Vogue+Peasant+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703062063897392370" />

Elepant Skirt...I think it's Butterick 5466

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzmVV5m0dqQQsHjGLGfZxTiytyKiSM6fcn9lY_abosV1P8SoyqjTuMns6K8wB5S54wf7avGcjSobW9WsVVp_ghHmo-_A56eKThAYiDgxWy_m4ziqx-GcDWsSt7Fhxg_d54zoq37iwyd7Va/s400/Elephant+skirt+front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703062639908420226" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiloxvMwx9Z0iSdTtu07YA3kM8lujt3yxvZuoW8GLcNDnrg_PJTBCz8JqCMPUcSyXpOcs0NUQyco8pdT0hrt4HX2BSLZp0mF2ujH-GN3Epo0xwB4oIO6eumWnAqmjrZAla15zh5o2UDZfdd/s400/Elephant+Skirt+back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703062636115390674" />

I think I have a couple more things to post but need to take pictures. Some of this fabric is going to be hideous to work with but it doesn't have to be gorgeous.

I picked up a pattern for 99 cents at Hobby Lobby, McCalls 5732. I'm not sure how much I will sew up but I will try. I'm out of town one weekend and another weekend is my son's first gymnastic meet. Then I think is a pencil skirt out of this fun fabric I've had for quite awhile.

I was doing a Fabric Fast as well and doing pretty well...for me at least. I bought one piece of fabric, some special Milly Peacock fabric from Gorgeous Fabrics that I could not pass up! I bought some back in November from FabricMart and while I had been able to control myself in December, I fell off the wagon today! FabricMart had a some nice things on sale, then threw in a 10% off coupon on Facebook, then there was the free mystery bundle for a $75 purchase...damn, well I caved!

Oh well!

I was going through my stash and pulling out fabrics I would never make anything wearable out of for me. I started thinking about fun play/dress up clothes for kids. My good friend's daughter loves dress up so I think I'm going to make some things for her out of it. Maybe some fun twirly skirts, a cape, and maybe a dress.Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-51657281003374938322011-12-19T15:58:00.005-05:002011-12-19T16:32:50.185-05:00Crazy Pants (or how to embarrass a kid)"Are you actually going to wear those in public?" asked my son. "Why yes," I replied. "In fact, I am wearing them to work tomorrow!"

I was feeling like a lazy sewer for awhile and I decided I needed something a tad more involved to sew. I have been loving the new fringe trend of printed pants. I've always been a sucker for printed pants ever since I was a little girl. Just ask my mom about my 7 Up pants! My favorite pair of pants had 7 Up logos printed all over them. Even in high school I had some crazy pants. My favorite were pink and purple floral pants from Benetton.

You Look Fab wrote a Blog Post about them and I obviously vote YAY on them.

You Look Fab

This fabric was an original purchase about three years or so ago from my local indie...Fabric Gallery. I thought for sure it would be a coat or jacket but it's been screaming for me to make it into pants for the last couple of months. I guess it would be considered a brocade. It frayed horrible when I sewed it but other than that it was great.

I've been doing my best to utilize stash patterns and fabric. I really wanted to order the new Colette cigarette pants but I was good. I found this pattern and always have great luck with Burda pants and these were no exception.

I wasn't sure about the added bulk of the gathering on the waistband so I left it off. I'm glad I did. The reviews for the pattern are less than stellar but that's mostly due to Burda's crappy instructions which is normal in my opinion. I didn't even use them at all. As usual, I followed Sandra Betzina's Flyfront Zipper Tutoral...it never fails! I left off the little pocket in the back, just a waist of time I think. If you don't need instructions or can find them elsewhere, these are wonderfully drafted pants. They aren't so skinny that I look like an apple on a stick. They are more straight legged. I shortened them a smidge so they hit right at my ankle. I think they are meant to be a bit shorter though.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvEtugF8XxyvSt01od0rpSJ26kA2MZDCgvcvq5ZC7zWCta7ZhoLpi1AF-3ROOa6KDaipJyL_RWZ8Vho0R1iG8ks0syul2DQwfNtCrJwwGEUzBy830EPDxDlp5Dju32A0g1xN0OTF6Emkp_/s400/Burda+7533+Crazy+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687953213504585074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 224px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHCnMgdz1zdPKhemdJjQy4F1Qh6KbBzMqL4Z4non44bHQ8IhEL5-Kum89YOXWxGJYjw31Gskh6nATn4yqGJj4qU4jwTug_ttH8MT4uE3eKw93_KpLCal8jE8MxKQ0yh6x0UGE0FPlDS4Dv/s400/Burda+7533+Crazy+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687953203909281314" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 252px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ40BIJz-c4mYS_P7bWf6l-wJAdi03cF7ATCRsUzmw3TlmVhNGOJyzLj5lV9h6dD8Fs6f62Aw4lMRoJqS3n-r7EHE6DSb3R319KyiuBgmfhtJtiGPRiQBYwohGOF9jmVPcD9q9hVQpJST-/s400/Burda+7533+Crazy+Closeup.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687953196687265282" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVnSgAzCoS9ypvE5pTDCNJzOUrDRGgkmJxBg19ncE9Z0fvbyxwJrj5gqE-xa0O9MfQ7Ho9n8lk360r3r1FN80KGZFeKPiPO4ZMiZp-Qr7PzBuQ7rWmke4jsat4tQ-kxmuxeusYzHLAYGMR/s400/Burda+7533+Crazy+Waistband+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687953182608943122" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVhANf6yTtz0lJ5KUijfboioLuI43xnQIw0zGwzbvcuybZtw_YCC9ehZEqz7aviNxxtdPEXhpsckzmA-85kWBFbDDLWaSSDjDe7eZdA1Cg8SCW4dr_RT7xkigXdk4UELdafAnRdq-kRh_w/s400/Burda+7533+Crazy+Waistband+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687953175235036386" />

I really like them with this shirt.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 259px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAtdwoJ9L5v14Z-GRfWetZY5PIpIEO1IPU1sTjPz33kkLO4Sp2URrYVSJ2y9sg74nxW62VtDGrxH8-3DXPJHSdtGbL0PHlN6fQm6NR8WgXQ40E0A-YoSyPspYhnxMqevwJRYuMyHrTvWQK/s400/Burda+7533+Crazy+Black+Shirt.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687953590520617858" />

Below are pictures of my practice pair. These are a cotton blend I think. There was three yards in a FabricMart mystery bundle. It is wonderful fabric. I have enough left to make a straight skirt at a later date. I wore them today so they are wrinkled. After wearing them, I think they might have some wool in them.

This pair I cut out a size 42 and only took 3/8 inch seams on the side seams. I am usually a large 42 or a small 44...kinda in between. This pattern only went up to 42. I found them to be pretty generous this way and did a straight 42 for the crazy pants. These are really comfortable though and I will get a ton of wear out of them. I wore them all day today running errands. A great alternative to jeans which I am liking less and less as I get older.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 340px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhripyzt_ctYJFwPGavXl-oVpValU5cMys0DB9_GJ35i35yYqyK-ssiNIpstXZz-7qE7L_ocPSY-e7Z3VDuhCvzu92KuzT79SAJRLZqT0pyk9dBF77TXLYxZdzrHKcySC5CPQF-eeHYR5jI/s400/Burda+7533+Black+Closeup.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687955215839478050" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJXlTxTJ2nQ5XPqTEEXIv1nS3hGo7NQk8l6bp7dHpkORd8ljY-Yzjct2zAauNJf6k1qf5jB4WBVwcZU1eIPQEca-nTCF8RpdA2TYDfn449VXYIuYmh6jrQpSfpaKESwSVrxsWN9WICqqu1/s400/Burda+7533+Black+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687955204184481858" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyIOOvjNNezWcsboKXkx9wr_o3i5j2j-wiQ1lPIz_8D3MO6NoOc7BBfVTuBnNLCJnYCiOoitRW61OIGlBt59mD7gPiZcbHRaB2Huz-HdJBXcXthuAEmuLkdPeumYISTG9mxw2HCN9-Db-c/s400/Burda+7533+Black+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687955200677661394" />Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-17218038197010347352011-12-13T18:03:00.005-05:002011-12-13T18:27:51.792-05:00Kwik Sew 3561...A MontageMy life has been in quite the turmoil lately. I feel like George Jetson screaming, "Jane, stop this crazy thing!"

But nonetheless I have wanted to sew. I'm not in the mindset for anything complicate or new at the moment. There is something to be said for TNT patterns that you love and are totally versatile. I call it "Idiot" sewing.

I was going out of town and I wanted some comfortable and verstile dresses. Jeans take up so much room and I really don't find them all that comfortable anymore.

So I made three versions of my favorite dress...Kwik Sew 3561

Version 1: This is the regular shorter length pattern. The fabric is a wool jersey blend but it is so soft and comfy. I feel like I'm wearing jammies. It kind of has a mottled but not quite tiedyed look to it. I skipped the facings and created a neck edging. I serged it on with clear elastic then folded it over and used my double needle to finish it. Love it! Next time though, I will angle the neck edging so it's slightly smaller on the inside and lays better.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg20724JePvCkZY4PruioyFvRL_BS2Y8WEhH4yttphx8uB2GSljlnm54bjZtUmNf4LVharyz1yQ836oEcoUoLPFRcGlCQBSMPlDLiV9mRU_HkZR42MEuAET091POElTLMU6QbGZOZ9UFi8p/s400/KS+Blue+Dress+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685755166743646434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggWFyRiSVI9vu8ul2h1-45dd7TPrs5-_0FHJuOjXkFxqZJVR4rQBUr2mymv9nOMMxt-oqclg6KQbm1yfgcWZwpMQSEN9LziWJG2ZZbs4k77jHmHCxb-M-DM7uQuTHKSffg_3abCSl3MOTE/s400/KS+Blue+Dress+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685755162839297522" />

Version 2: This is a rayon knit. For this one, I did the same neckline treatment but cut it cross wise so the stripes were opposite. I made sleeve cuffs and a hem cuff in the same manner. I wanted this one a smidge longer.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFju458VNTWo0_EJ411kFABqUpXQWR_N4ecGikslpKevIM3WNe7Q3NasPWTSEpdTjRhkhD8nof24li3PiBp7bNkjFm0_5zj0O6Uy1QDjTh7gOvZFxSaeqo6QF1W4kBh0Aw3R1s7w2242Rb/s400/KS+Red+Dress+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685756925717879202" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz2DZXXLPd70dJVsmddW0m75i6P8tfRlM5vgZA9lVe9ch0PJxIsg8PS_MDmtMmTxVpFpJkIFP9ER9_VgmOrJ3PkA5oZGbKR-R-H4QQb8fJNOLqCqEQ7GXo9VV_JuCo4Xo2g0bWC5KeBv5I/s400/KS+Red+Dress+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685756932376869106" />

Version 3: This was an afterthought. I finished it the night before I got on a plane! I bought this gorgeous scarf and wanted to wear it (sorry not in the picture) so I needed a dress. I had this purple that matched it well so I whipped it up in the short sleeves version for something different. I also decided to cut the back in two pieces for a CB seam. It enabled me to curve it along my back for a nicer line. I think I will do this from now on. I really like it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrTnC11NRFQLuOFJQoS5KSzoTPAo4GrpqfflZV_TKjqWf-z_IrmGpDuGcu9c7V4XQ1LdEvEL2JaDqitAWGwsfLHP49hnjDLQRzu_yiD24UtN17DO2uJDaBPhzilQDjJA6spBZBhvsnca2Y/s400/KS+Purple+Dress+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685757213076339298" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2kX6Flcejqe_HNXSTt6t3PS6kH7o7Q2Dj59ZAcdl0y3XxkRKf8rQ6olXe4XpHMXCx_6MXbK9gcuzgjjKiyyq6hQaIQmlkcXAfIaZieqgfKWNbeLM0tIgii4tqA0BsJKhNlRuBEyhXf1yJ/s400/KS+Purple+Dress+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5685757209865654674" />

Before making these I tried to experimenting with other patterns before going back to this one. I did the McCall 6335 but found it ran huge!!! I would need to go down two sizes to get it to fit right. I salvaged the one I made to be wearable but I don't think I'm a fan of it.

I also tried an Onion pattern, the number which escapes me, but it is a raglan sleeved shift dress. It flares more. I kind of like it but my fabric was super stretchy and I think it needs a bit less stretch to hold it's shape. I might finish it. It was practice worthy fabric so no loss.

These were all made back on October, that's how bad I have been at posting. I did do another round of TNT patterns featuring Vogue 8597. This is another pattern I've made before, but about two years ago. I made three versions. Two tops and one I lengthened to a maxi dress...it looks awesome. I made it for my BFF for her college graduation. I did take pictures of me in it so my next post will be of those. I need to take pictures of the tops.

Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-90452287577889518862011-11-23T21:24:00.003-05:002011-11-23T21:38:14.167-05:00Vogue 1247 Leather Skirt DONE!!!This was a tuffy! I cut it out and after I did I had major second thoughts. I made some changes, namely moving the zipper to the side so add that to the laying out of leather and I was really unsure what I was doing. I did end up with one blemish in a noticeable spot but oh well. I sewed the pockets on and they didn't really want to lay right. I was very worried they wouldn't work. This is kind of a tricky pattern too with the pockets and there are no second chances with leather.

I sewed in the zipper which actually went in very nicely. The photos look a little wobbly but I think that's glare on the leather from the flash. It actually lays pretty nicely. I sew the other side and the zipper side the rest of the way which is the last blog post.

Last night I started on the lining. I hate doing linings but figure it was a must for this. I started out with some Bermberg and about screamed...I hate working with that stuff. I remembered I had some of this funky charmeuse in my stash. I used it to line my biker coat awhile back. Speaking of which, bet that will look great with this skirt. I self drafted a lining and it worked out nicely. I put the lining and the waistband on last night.

I finished up tonight by hemming the lining and the worst part of this whole process was putting a closure on the waistband. My poor hands are so sore and beaten up.

Someone asked in another post about hemming leather. First off, yes, I only turned it under once and left the edges raw. IMO no need to finish them. Second, I have no idea if what I do is right. I tend to make up my own rules!

So after being unsure about it, I do love it! It turned out like I had hoped it would. It's fun and funky but still work appropriate if I want. Forgive the thrown together look. I was in the PJs sewing and threw something on for photos. I can't wait to play with different looks for it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAZhfHLI4ZGWz2oXIjt-Y73UcPVgVunDIGISd_kSF7w83fHFvD6Cj8Cm6p2qCaU1iaCt0I3gcQd1IwhqQ95dJK47NLm8qtM65lXDC-KlJmOTvXPYBdYwTl9GKb4Kwqrz10DG-BcfaW3oH4/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather+Full.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678385620426080946" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrjXPCsM2GWocMkwBl0EzZd2cEXcPAB1hlL2YfMp542jJ45hpafrwQpEqPgKBV8lqHiRR8Wc9rrVx960pCm1YW1dFPItP-693gkp0nZHG2dLDpHMWGsabClUkfMA82k5TPdmwZUsZ68nnY/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather+Closeup+Front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678385610898923970" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBjEGrujqER9_L1fOLsIO1ZWfKS-jofUI5iqKo65sUnL34kp-_x8fhiDnEHH2KJCSGtBLyL0C3HLrVCEVgLHVHi_0-EGPJQfq9lF1OpeIcvlBeJw7Paso4YVHCLMkq-rloAQNA2j2Zw7dw/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather+Closeup+Pockets.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678385604638056402" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMLBDHQLVvRUXN5-PiEtoaBup2ssMkKVUP4vtIa-TRHYwa63brfsxnyUmFmD25fJxnE1Z0zRD6r7PzSKe_4cjmGZAL867D9cLAkZJbMCiAZ-xa4vGmpLqeUvct7aLRZz9AC7uimaJfoWdn/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather+Closeup+Back.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678385603340720002" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY1p9TAtDOdvktb6rtTI0CmiwwfjKRpYhJx2uZilf601zh1W6-F7AqFS89CfJxYW1gLA4X-vH9drTR4hNfxjPp-vY8OxMT7jYUB28IZM0s6c1CSoYsqdJo3N47d4uL8JMNQPH_daGgAQ-1/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather+Closeup+Zipper.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678385972545728274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTBWaZdHXow32g6bY0YVBB8zZIwKK7AYM4LBREGrsHqpQSK9ARQ6Zst_qbEVdMqGcLZ3_YtXGm_-msR_Ajc8cPhARGNDy1RMp323Cdo8NFQLTnMfRgNq-OyBuomE2C8gRAwJ44MlLtxZl3/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather+Closeup+Lining.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678385965213128658" />Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-46740278000728078742011-11-18T20:59:00.004-05:002011-11-18T21:05:34.307-05:00Progress on the skirt - Vogue 1247I know I was teasing with the last post and no pictures. Well, it's together, mostly now. I changed it to have the invisible zipper on the side so there was elss stress on it. It went in beautifully!!! I really like sewing on leather.

I was really wondering how this would turn out. Those pockets are tricky to get to lay right and you only have one shot with leather. Luckily leather really molds to your body and some things smoothed out. I made this version a big snugger than my other one.

I need to put on the waistband on and hem it. I am going back and forth about a lining....ugh...I hate sewing linings. But I should on this one. I just wear a slip usually.

You all have me considering another skirt now ;-) I don't know....maybe. I bought the larger cowskins for some pants. I really want some leather pants. My birthday is coming up soon so maybe I'll ask my Mom to buy me some leather for another skirt. She usually buys me a gift certificate for fabric.

Sorry about the quality. Quickie photo on my phone.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 302px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPAwFMElOmTdbw_8OcCLQHPxTsxZNhzkjNMkCMxQzL1Tu8d3qHKkjwjLqu0PCE65ZdUTolqMNSzvzlIob6eUoUNVV-B7wOpSydmf4fn56DpXUQK4hJiHCnKFx0wcCKLnyfIwsuzeE8PTVJ/s400/Vogue+1247+Leather_progress.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676521880145786050" />Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3093292106604425520.post-43639630874788353462011-11-18T14:22:00.003-05:002011-11-18T14:26:20.583-05:00Vogue 1247 in leather (In progress)I am such a blogging slacker! I have sewn, in fact, I sewed up three dresses and one sweater last month. I have two blog posts in draft form just waiting for pictures that I haven't taken yet.

In the meantime, I finally cut out the Vogue 1247 in leather the other night and have started on it. The day after I cut it out though, I found a skirt pattern I liked better...never fails. It's Burda 7311.

I love the version they show in black leather. I tried to find more leather on FabricMart where I purchased all of my other leather and their prices are "normal" now, not bargain basement. So, I will have to wait for another leather skirt. I do have a a couple cowhides at home too but they are black also. I don't think I need two black leather skirts.

Sorry for the tease...I will post some pics of the skirt soon!Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13669069576502953258noreply@blogger.com3
